Pachypodium windsorii – Rare Jewel of Madagascar

Family: Apocynaceae
Origin: Northern Madagascar (Andavakoera area)
Common Name: Windsor’s Pachypodium

Product Overview:

Pachypodium windsorii is a rare, small caudiciform succulent native to the rocky, limestone outcrops of northern Madagascar. Known for its beautiful crimson to deep pink flowers and sculptural form, this species is considered one of the most collectible and sought-after Pachypodiums in the world. Its compact size, striking floral display, and swollen base make it a favorite among serious collectors and bonsai enthusiasts.

Because of its rarity and slow growth, P. windsorii is typically available only in limited quantities — a true gem for any rare plant collection.

Key Features:

  • Caudex (Base): Swollen, round to bottle-shaped caudex used for water storage. Silvery-gray to tan in color and beautifully textured.

  • Size: Small and compact; typically 20–40 cm tall in cultivation

  • Leaves: Narrow, dark green leaves grow in a rosette from the top of each stem during the growing season; deciduous in dry/dormant seasons

  • Flowers: Brilliant scarlet to deep pink trumpet-shaped blooms — more vibrant than most other Pachypodium species

  • Spines: Short but prominent, offering the plant a rugged, defensive texture

  • Growth Rate: Slow-growing, especially in cultivation
